Osogbo Renaissance Group Criticizes Land Grabbing Allegations Against Government.
Osogbo, 31/10/2024.
The Osogbo Renaissance Group has issued a statement addressing the ongoing controversy surrounding the Technical College land in Osogbo, asserting that "certain individuals are attempting to undermine the current government."
The statement, signed by conveners Adedotun Abiola, Ayokunnu Akeem, Olaniyan Babatope, and Ejiwumi Faridah, expressed their deep concern over the situation.
The group expressed disappointment over comments made by local elder Comrade Amitolu Shittu, which they believe contributed to a campaign of misinformation.
"It is disheartening to see respected individuals spreading false narratives that threaten the progress of our community."
"Initially, the group opted to remain silent, preferring to gather accurate information before forming an opinion."
''As residents of Osogbo, the group emphasised the importance of informed discussion regarding local development."
"We will not stand by while misinformation erodes the trust in our leaders."
They alleged that some elders, who previously gained political power through their association with Osogbo, are now behind the ongoing criticism.
The group contended that these individuals have a history of undermining the community's leadership for personal gain.
The Osun Progressive Liberation Minders (OPLM) and the Osogbo Development Action Group (ODAG) recently released statements revealing the identities of those allegedly orchestrating the current unrest.
"These statements are not only biased but also misrepresentative of the true sentiments of our community. The people of Osogbo are united in their desire for development."
The Renaissance Group highlighted their findings from a visit to the Capital Territory Development Agency, which revealed allegations against Mr. Lekan Salami, a local resident.
Salami is accused of attempting to illegally claim land and of orchestrating deceitful schemes under the guise of representing Osogboโs interests.
"Our investigation revealed troubling patterns of deceit and exploitation.''
The group also reported that Salami has been involved in questionable land transactions, claiming to act on behalf of Osogbo families.
According to the group, these transactions reportedly benefited only Salami and his associates, leaving many innocent buyers embroiled in legal disputes.
"The manipulation of our communityโs resources for personal gain is a direct attack on the rights of our citizens."
Furthermore, Mr. Salami is alleged to be obstructing the Living Spring Technical College Housing Estate project, which is intended to provide affordable housing and public facilities for Osogbo residents.
"This project is vital for our communityโs growth. It is designed to uplift the local population, and we cannot allow selfish interests to derail it."
The Osogbo Renaissance Group firmly refuted claims that the government opposes Osogboโs development, stating that such accusations are unfounded and aimed at discrediting the leadership of Osun State.
"These baseless claims are an insult to the governorโs commitment to advance Osogboโs development."
They praised the governorโs efforts to foster growth within the community and urged residents to remain vigilant against manipulation by self-serving individuals.
The group called for an investigation into Mr. Salamiโs actions and reiterated their support for the governor's development initiatives.
"We urge law enforcement and community leaders to take a stand against these fraudulent schemes. Our community deserves better."
In conclusion, the Osogbo Renaissance Group encouraged citizens to unite in support of the governmentโs vision for a prosperous future for Osogbo and Osun State.
"Together, we can champion the cause of progress and ensure that Osogbo thrives."
